Kate Devlin is a computer scientist and Professor of Artificial Intelligence & Society at King's College London, where she is Chair-Director of the Digital Futures Institute. Her research examines how people interact with technology, particularly artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction, and she is the author of Turned On: Science, Sex and Robots. [2]
Career and work
Devlin trained in archaeology before moving into computer science, completing postgraduate study in computing and a PhD. She later spent more than a decade at Goldsmiths, University of London before joining King's College London. [2]
At King's, she is Professor of Artificial Intelligence & Society and Chair-Director of the Digital Futures Institute. Her research focuses on artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, digital intimacy and the social effects of emerging technologies. [2]
She is also involved in the Responsible AI UK programme and was appointed to the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology's College of Experts in 2026. [3]
Devlin is the author of Turned On: Science, Sex and Robots, which examines technology, intimacy and the social implications of robotics. [2]
