Samke J. Ngcobo is a South African medical doctor, author and mental-health advocate. She founded Vocal Mentality and Sisters for Mental Health, initiatives focused on mental-health education, reducing stigma and incorporating lived experience into public discussion of mental illness. [4][1]
Career and work
Ngcobo completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2011 and went on to work as a medical doctor in South Africa. Her professional experience has included several years working in mental-health services, including within psychiatry and multidisciplinary clinical teams. [5]
She is also the author of Reflections of a Convoluted Mind: A Journey With My Mental Illness, which combines memoir with reflections on mental health. In 2020, she founded Vocal Mentality, through which she provides mental-health education, speaking engagements and wellness consulting for organizations and communities. [4][5]
Ngcobo has also become an international keynote speaker, addressing corporate and community audiences and appearing across radio and television. [4]
